Elmhurst Artists’ Guild displays “Space and Sound” art exhibit
Michael Klaus Schmidt's solo show “Space and Sound” is being featured in the Elmhurst Artists Guild gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst, from February 19 through March 31. A reception will be held in the gallery from 7 to 9 pm on Friday, February 24; it is free and the public is invited.
Schmidt’s work revolves around the intersection of traditional painting, audio-visual generative design, science and spirituality. Often, his work will incorporate different aspects of each of these elements. Work in one medium will inspire work in another, which then informs the work in the first. It is this interplay of different media and how they interact which defines Schmidt's most recent work.
“If there is an underlying message to my art, I remain intentionally unaware of it,” he said. By trying to impart meaning into one's own art, the deeper intention of the artist may be obscured. It is this deeper intention that inspires the artist to continue producing work in a constant effort to learn more about the inner (soul) as well as the outer (universe) in which we exist, according to Schmidt.
In addition to being the proud father of six, the artist has a long résumé of exhibitions: Chicago, New Orleans, Toronto, San Francisco, London and Saudi Arabia. He is a member of the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild and works as a freelance graphic designer and children's book author and illustrator.
For further information, contact Michael Schmidt at 708-296-3738 (www.schmidt-gallery.com) or visit www.elmhurstartistsguild.org.
The exhibition can be viewed during regular Museum hours, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm and Friday from 11 am to 7 pm. The first Friday of each month is the Museum’s free admission day. At other times, admission for adults is $8 and for seniors $7. EAM and Guild members, students and children under 18 are admitted free.
The EAG gallery is not-for-profit, operated by the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild. It features original contemporary artworks in a variety of styles and media. In addition to four member shows each year, the guild hosts exhibitions of individual member’s artwork and invitational shows for significant local artists. Exhibits have been partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council.
