Elmhurst College to Host 'Hamilton: The Revolution' author Jeremy McCarter on Se
Jeremy McCarter has known Lin-Manuel Miranda since Miranda’s groundbreaking, white-hot musical Hamilton was in its earliest stages. In the highly sought-after book Hamilton: The Revolution, co-authored by McCarter and Miranda, McCarter describes the book as a chronicle of two revolutions—the American Revolution of the 18th century, and that of the hip-hop-inspired Hamilton itself, “a musical that changes the way that Broadway sounds ... that lets us glimpse the new, more diverse America rushing our way.”
McCarter, a cultural critic and theater artist, will present Hamilton: The Revolution on September 20 at Elmhurst College, as part of the Roland Quest Lecture Series. A member of the artistic staff of the Public Theater, where Hamilton was developed and premiered, McCarter will trace the musical’s development from an improbable performance at the White House to its landmark opening night on Broadway six years later.
Hamilton: The Revolution will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, www.elmhurst.edu/campusmap).
Copies of Hamilton: The Revolution will be available for purchase. McCarter will be available to sign books after the lecture.
