DESCRIPTION:In A Surprised Queenhood in the New Black Sun: The Life & Legacy of Gwendolyn Brooks (2017)\, award-winning author\, poet and playwright Angela Jackson traces the literary arc of Pulitzer Prize winning poet Gwendolyn Brooks within the context of Brooks' life and times.\n\n\n\nOn March 14\, Jackson will talk about the book and read from her own Pulitzer-nominated volume of poetry\, It Seems Like a Mighty Long Time\, when she gives this year's Genevieve Staudt Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst College. Angela Jackson is the author of numerous books and collections of poetry\, including the National Book Award nominated And All These Roads Be Luminous: Poems Selected and New.\n\n\n\nThe Genevieve Staudt Intercultural Lecture is delivered annually during Women's History Month at Elmhurst College. It is named for the College's former dean of students\, who served the College for 30 years and left an indelible stamp of leadership.\n\n\n\nJackson's talk will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday\, March 14\, in the Frick Center\, Founders Lounge (190 Prospect Ave.\, Elmhurst\, elmhurst.edu/campusmap).\n\n\n\nAdmission is $10 for the general public and free for Elmhurst College students\, faculty\, staff and alumni. Tickets are available by visiting elmhurst.edu/cultural.
