March President's Message
March 02, 2017
Last month, I updated you on some of the Chamber’s Centennial Celebration planning for our 100th Anniversary come 2018. This month, I have more news to share with you.
The Chamber’s Board of Directors at its February 14 meeting took action on several endeavors regarding our Centennial Celebration, as follows:
- Approved the Case Statement in support of our once-in-a-century $250K Capital Campaign, as recommended by the Centennial Celebration Committee;
- Approved a $1.7K contract to redesign our 20-year-old Elm leaf logo and tagline, as recommended by the Marketing Committee; and
- Approved a $1.95K contract to reformat and redesign our website after five years, as recommended by the Marketing Committee.
The Case Statement establishes the foundation upon which our Chamber will accomplish the Capital Campaign’s three fundraising initiatives, as follows:
- Endow our Chamber’s Student Internship Fund at Elmhurst College;
- Fund construction of a public Civic Hall of Fame Memorial; and
- Establish a Second Century Fund to secure our future for the next 100 years.
When done, our Chamber hopes to raise $150K for the Student Internship Endowment at Elmhurst College, $50K for a Civic Hall of Fame Memorial and $50K for the Second Century Fund. In December, retired Elmhurst banker Ralph Pechanio, a long-time Chamber member and volunteer, donated $100K to Elmhurst College to fully endow our Student Internship Fund at two-thirds of our goal, and I am making monthly payments on my $25K pledge to cover 50% of the Second Century Fund goal.
The Chamber has contracted with Korzenowski Design, a Chamber member since 1999, for a redesigned logo to cover both our 100th Anniversary year and for years after. On February 21, Bartels and I brainstormed ideas with John and Gigi Korzenowski in order to develop two logo options for March 7 Marketing Committee meeting consideration. My thanks to Chamber members DeForest Creative Group (since 1967) and Creative Inks (since 2001) for submitting imaginative proposals to also consider.
The Chamber has contracted with SMB Advantage Group to reformat our website into a WordPress platform and redesign both the look and the content to be “responsive” to any kind of accessing technology and provide searchable content optimization (SCO).
First created in January of 2000, our website has morphed into a content management mix of ChamberMaster modules and JOOMLA! pages displayed within a template developed by SMB Advantage Group and regularly updated by staff.
