SUMMARY:Elmhurst Symphony Presents ?Fantasia Salute: Rite of Spring 101?
DESCRIPTION:Join the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra as it celebrates the conclusion of its exciting 53rd season\, "Music Among Friends\," on Saturday\, May 10\, 2014\, at 7:00 p.m. at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church\, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. in Elmhurst\, when it presents "Fantasia Salute: Rite of Spring 101." In one of the ESO's most eventful season finales ever\, music from Walt Disney's landmark film "Fantasia" takes center stage. Over one hundred strings will combine with full winds and brass as the York High School String Orchestra plays side-by-side with ESO musicians on Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain." Dances from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" ballet will please listeners of all ages\, and Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" will be presented with a special multi-media salute by Music Director Stephen Alltop\, featuring historical photos\, fascinating video segments and musical excerpts. Be part of the excitement on the occasion of this revolutionary masterpiece's one hundred and first anniversary and learn what really caused the Riot at the Rite when the ballet debuted in 1913! \n\n \n\n"Rite of Spring" is underwritten by a generous gift from John and Reva Lizzadro.\n\n \n\nThe ESO\, under the baton of Maestro Alltop\, will perform in the spectacular space at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church\, which is handicapped-accessible and offers free parking. The concert experience is enhanced by the informative and lively discussions led by audience favorite Ted Hatmaker\, which take place 1 hour and 15 minutes before each concert. Tickets purchased before the day of the event are $32 for adults\, $30 for seniors\, $9 for students\, and $65 for families (up to 2 adults and three students.) Premium prices at the door are an additional $5 per ticket. Subscriptions for the 2014-15 season\, "Music of the Soul\," are now available at a significant savings over single ticket prices. For information and to purchase tickets and/or subscriptions call the ESO Box Office at 630-941-0202.\n\n \n\nThis concert is made possible in part by grants from the City of Elmhurst\, the Illinois Arts Council (a state agency)\, and the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation.
