SUMMARY:New Winter and Old China
DESCRIPTION:Elmhurst College will host photographer Alan Sue's exhibition "New Winter and Old China". The exhibition highlights two bodies of Sue's work. His "Winter" series is photographed on a short stretch of beach along Lake Michigan in Wilmette\, Ill. The project\, which began in 1976\, regained momentum decades later during the polar vortex of 2015 and has continued to the present time. The "unearthly effects" created in these photographs frequently are achieved by combining long exposures with post visualized color and movement. Sue's second body of work\, the "China" series\, comes out of a documentation of his seven trips to China between 1988 and 2003. The work takes place on a very personal level\, dealing with self-discovery and an examination of culture. A public reception for the artist will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday\, Sept. 18\, with a talk by the artist at 5:00 p.m.
