A GERMAN LIFE: AGAINST ALL ODDS, CHANGE IS POSSIBLE

The son of a decorated Nazi officer, Bernd Wollschlaeger is the author of A German Life: Against All Odds Change is Possible, which recounts his struggle to reconcile the truth about Nazi Germany with his father's past. Wollschlaeger eventually converted to Judaism and lived in Israel before relocating to Florida, where he is a practicing family physician with a specialty in addiction medicine. Bernd Wollschlaeger will talk about his book and his life during this years Holocaust Education Project Lecture and Service of Remembrance, on April 7 at Elmhurst College.  Dr. Wollschlaeger is a board-certified family physician in private practice. In 2012 he was honored as the Florida Academy of Family Physicians' Family Doctor of the Year. His 2009 book, A German Life: Against All Odds Change is Possible, describes growing up in Germany in the shadow of his father, a highly decorated World War II tank commander and Nazi officer. After converting to Judaism, Wollschlaeger immigrated to Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces as a medical officer before completing his residency in Florida.  A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by Wollschlaeger's talk at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, www.elmhurst.edu/campusmap). Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information, call (630) 617-3390. Elmhurst College is a leading liberal arts college located eight miles west of Chicago.
