Friday, October 16th at 7:30 PM, the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour located at 116 E. Church Street, Elmhurst, IL (corner of Church and Kenilworth in Elmhurst) will be hosting "An Evening with the Canon". John Schaefer, Canon Musician, Organist and Choirmaster at Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City, MO will be offering a free organ recital with selections from Bach, Vierne and Widor, among others.

 

The evening is planned to raise awareness and money for Church of Our Saviour's companion parish, St. Mark's, in Jelhak, Sudan. As many are aware, the Sudan has seen one of the most brutal and bloody civil wars in the history of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Since 2004 the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, Elmhurst, has been in partnership with St. Mark's in Jelhak, located in the diocese of Renk, Sudan, a crossroads between the North and South. The Bishop of Renk, Bishop Joseph, graduated from Chicago's Seabury Western Theological Seminary, where he was a classmate of the Reverend Suzann V. Holding. Bishop Joseph built a strong and lasting relationship with Church of Our Saviour through regular visits and correspondence. "An Evening with the Canon" will donate the free will offerings which are received to Bishop Joseph's three initiatives, Health Care, Education and Agriculture.

 

Never has there been a more crucial and pivotal time in the lives of the people of the Sudan. Sharing in their commitment to the Gospel and commitment to all humanity, the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour invites the community to "An Evening with the Canon" fundraiser to help St. Mark's in their ministry. The event will be held on October 16, 2009 at 7:30 PM at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour Elmhurst, 116 East Church Street, Elmhurst (corner of Church Street and Kenilworth).
