Changing Caregivers Into Care Partners through Connection, Communication, and Care
This hands-on workshop will guide learners in seeing the value and use of Positive Approach strategies when helping people living with dementia during social interactions, personal care routines, and daily engagement. The goal is to foster participation and use preserved skills to help reduce anxiety and resistance to care which results in an improved quality of life for all concerned. This workshop helps learners develop the observational and performance skills necessary behaviors to recognize and intervene effectively when challenging situations occur. It emphasize the value of matching helping behaviors to the person's needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction. Modifying the task demands, the environment, the caregiver's approach are three key elements to improving the situation.
