Elmhurst College to Host Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture on Feb. 10
David Stovall is a professor of educational policy studies and African-American studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). His scholarship investigates critical race theory; concepts of social justice in education; the relationship between housing and education; and the relationship between schools and community stakeholders.
Professor Stovall will present "Reframing King: Revolutionary Warrior for Justice and Freedom," this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Intercultural Lecture, on Wednesday, February 10, at Elmhurst College.
Turning theory into action, David Stovall has spent the last 10 years working with community organizations and schools to develop curricula that address social justice issues. His work has led him to become a member of the Greater Lawndale/Little Village School of Social Justice High School design team, which opened in 2005 and where he also volunteers as a social studies teacher.
"Reframing King: Revolutionary Warrior for Justice and Freedom" will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, www.elmhurst.edu/campusmap). Admission is $10 for the general public and free for Elmhurst College students, faculty, staff and alumni. Tickets are available by visiting www.elmhurst.edu/tix.
