Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra Concert

One of the most dramatic journeys in the symphonic repertoire, Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 will conclude The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra’s 58th season on Saturday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. Cast for a huge orchestra, this epic work includes the famous Adagietto, one of the most beautiful passages ever composed for strings and harp. From its dramatic opening trumpet fanfare to the breath-taking finale, this is a night of music you will not want to miss. Musical Director and Conductor Stephen Alltop will offer a multi-media, in-depth look at this masterpiece and prepare you for a transforming musical experience of a lifetime! Continuing the ESO’s collaborative efforts with area young musicians, the concert also features a “side by side” performance of Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, with talented members of the York Community High School Symphony strings directed by Ray Ostwald joining the ESO in Brahms’ exuberant work Music for the concert is underwritten by a generous gift from Keith and Irmgard Olson. The Elmhurst Symphony performs at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, located at 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. in Elmhurst. The church has accessible parking and facilities; parking is free. The concert experience at ECRC is enhanced by the informative and lively discussion, Behind the Music Stand, led by audience favorite Dr. Ted Hatmaker, which takes place at 5:45 p.m. prior to the concert. Concert tickets are $35 for adults, $32 for seniors, and $12 for students. Group and family rates are also available. Subscribe to the 2019-20 season at the concert and receive the early bird rate on tickets and a Symphony chocolate bar. The 58th season of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra is made possible in part by grants from the City of Elmhurst, the Illinois Arts Council (a state agency), the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, and 90.9FM WDCB, Chicago’s Home for Jazz.
