ELSA Transition Fair for Special-Education Students to be Held on Feb. 28
Special education students and their families are invited to learn about educational programs and other services as they progress from school to adulthood during the ELSA Transition Fair and Information Session, to be held on Feb. 28 at Elmhurst College.
More than 20 agencies and organizations that provide education, job training, employment, living options, public transportation, and health services for adults with differing abilities will be at the fair. Some of these include the Ray Graham Association, Seguin Services, Aspire, Family Benefits Solutions, PACE at National Louis, Rubin Law, and the College of DuPage COACH program.
Attendees also can learn about the Elmhurst Learning and Success Academy (ELSA), Elmhurst College’s innovative program for young adults with differing abilities. ELSA is a four-year program that offers a full-time, post-secondary educational experience for young adults with intellectual or development disabilities. It focuses on academics and career exploration, independent living and social/recreational skills.
Faculty and staff from ELSA will host an information session at 7:30 p.m. The Fair’s keynote address, HOPE Handbook: A Guide to Disability Hiring, will be given at 8:00 p.m. by Tim Engstrom (director of supply chain & logistics at LA-CO Industries and adjunct professor of supply chain management at Elmhurst College) and Garrett Rosiek (ELSA career development coordinator). The handbook was created by Engstrom’s students in the Elmhurst College Supply Chain Management graduate program to help organizations interested in tapping the underutilized population of adults with disabilities.
The ELSA Transition Fair and Information Session will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Frick Center, Founders Lounge (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, elmhurst.edu/campusmap). Reserve your space by contacting ELSA at (630) 617-3752 or elsa@elmhurst.edu, or RSVP online at elmhurst.edu/visit/elsa.
