The film is based on the book Marshall the Miracle Dog written by Cyndi Willenbrock, who owns Marshall and produced the movie. Willenbrock will make appearances with Marshall, WGN-AM Radio host Patti Vasquez and local actors from the film at both the York and Charlestowne theatres.
They will appear from 6 to 7 PM on Friday, August 28 at the York Theatre, 150 North York St., in downtown Elmhurst. Chicago members of the film’s cast, the Elmhurst Commission on Youth and the Anti-Cruelty Society also will be on hand.
Willenbrock, Vasquez and Marshall will appear from 2 to 3 PM on Saturday, August 29, at the Charlestowne 18 Theatre, 3740 E Main Street, St. Charles. Chicago cast members and the Great Lakes Lab Rescue also will appear, and Chicago band First Impression will perform their song from the film.
“Marshall’s Miracle” (G/90 min) tells the story of a 13-year-old boy, Finn, who becomes the target of bullies at his new school. He feels hopeless until he finds Marshall caged up in deplorable conditions by a dog hoarder who keeps 60 dogs penned up on her isolated ranch. Finn knows he must rescue Marshall, but he has been abused by the other dogs and needs to see the vet right away. The bond of friendship is immediate. The boy sees something of himself in Marshall: both are bullied, but both are brave. By saving Marshall from the dogs that are attacking him, Finn pulls off a daring rescue—and that’s only the beginning of the story. Inspired by a true story, “Marshall’s Miracle” stars Shannon Elizabeth, Lauren Holly and Matthew Settle.
The movie won the Audience Choice Best of Fest Award at the St. Louis International Film Festival and the Best Family Film Award at the Wild Rose International Film Festival.
