Heritage Day at Fischer Farm & Churchville Schoolhouse
Join in a community-wide celebration of fall and local history at the Churchville Schoolhouse and Fischer Farm. Ride a complimentary shuttle between the adjacent historical sites for family-focused activities. At Fischer Farm: Free activities include exploring the historic buildings, candle dipping, local arts and crafts showcase, face painting, live country music by the White Saddle Band, historical displays and artifacts from the Ft. Dearborn Militia, and Taylor's Battery First Illinois Light Artillery Civil War reenactors present cannon firings on the hour. Picnic food available for purchase, and $5 wristband (kids under 12) for pony rides, petting zoo, and one pumpkin per child. At Churchville Schoolhouse: Tour the Churchville Schoolhouse (a National Register of Historic Places site), meet school marm Esther Fischer to find out how schoolchildren learned in the 1920s, participate in a spelling bee and children?s story time, see vintage Model Ts and an antique 1921 fire truck, hear live music of the era, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Co-presented by Elmhurst Historical Museum and Bensenville Park District. Rain date: October 26.
