One Small Voice Foundation will host its 8th Annual 5K Family Walk & Run benefiting the reserach of hydrocephalus and optic nerve hypoplasia on Sunday, September 27, at the Retired Train Depot (on the Prairie Path) at York and South Street. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with the 5K Run starting at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K Walk starting at 9:45 a.m.
This year’s race will feature 29-time Marathon runner and president of the Elmhurst Running Club, Kurt Fiene. Kurt has been blind since birth but despite his visual impairment, he has compete in 29 marathons, including five Boston Marathons, and number half-marathons and other distance races. Fiene will be the Grand Marshall of this year’s Walk and Run and will be available to sign autograph’s following the run.
Music, Refreshments, face painting and other fun family activities will also take place at the race. Besides t-shirts awarded to the first 125 registered participants, additional children’s shirts will be available for purchase. Bring your wagons and strollers for a fun walk on the Prairie Path!
