Stained Glass: Chicago Premiere of Philip Glass’s Piano Quintet
Cornelius Chiu and David Taylor, violin Igor Fedotov, viola Richard Hirschl, cello Paul Barnes and Winston Choi, piano Featured on Performance Today and written for Barnes in 2018, “Annunciation” is Philip Glass’s first piano quintet and first work based on Greek Orthodox chant. Barnes, who also serves as head chanter of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Lincoln, NE, will chant the communion hymn for the feast of the Annunciation before this performance. Also on the program will be Glass’s energetic Four Movements for Two Pianos with Winston Choi as well as Glass’s unpublished work “Pendulum” for piano and violin with CSO violinist and CCPA artist-faculty member Cornelius Chiu. This performance is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
